Subject: Going by the Pew research Center, 1997 is by far the best year to start Gen Z.

Written By: MichaelBurton69 on 04/19/19 at 7:50 pm

Gen Z starts in 1997(specifically late 1996), and at this point it shouldn't even be debatable. People born in 1997 would be the first to grew up completely during the iphone era, first to grow up during the recession, the first to not be in K-12 Schooling during 9/11,the first not to be actual kids at any point during the early 2000s or remember the early 2000s(2000-2003),the first to not remember when VHS were commonly used, the first not to remember dial up/web 1.0,first to be post Electropop teens(electropop teens is from 1992/1993-1996),the first to grow up with strictly digital technology and not remember a time before, the first not to be truly effected by the recession. Despite what many people say, people born in late 1995/mid 1996 grew up very different compared to people born late 1996/mid 1997 and later, which is why 1997 is by far the best year to start Gen Z.

Far as Generations are concerned.

People born from late 1945-mid 1964 = Baby Boomers
People born from late 1964-mid 1981 = Gen X (Gen X could end as early as 1979 or end as late as 1982),
people born from late 1976-mid 1983 = Xennials(overlapping with Gen X and the millennial Generation)
People born from late 1981-mid 1996 = Millennials
People born from late 1996-mid 2013 = Gen Z(Gen Z could end later than 2013)

Michael Burton 69 has got to be the most hilarious guy on this site by far!  ;D

He's got a 69 at the end of his username too along with his jokes about generations.

This guy's only motive is to exclude people from nostalgia. Pew Research Center starts Gen Z at 1997, but not for the same reasons that this guy claims.

Well Gen Z defined by growing up with strictly digital technology, which is why Gen Z sometimes is referred to as IGen. Anyone too young to remember 9/11, would probably have been too young to remember a pre digital world with things like Web 1.0/dial up,VHS,Floppy disk, Pre WiFi era, growing up during the iphone era, etc(which is what Gen Z is defined by). Also this nothing to do with"excluding people" from nostalgia. However the line has to be drawn someone far as people remember a pre digital world or any part of the early 2000s,and I say people born on August 31st of 1996(maybe September 1st 1996) or the class of 2014 would be the last to remember those things, hence why the millennial Generation ends in 1996, with Gen Z beginning in 1997(specifically September 1996) or the class of 2015.

No dont worry I agree with you. 1997 is very very gen z compared with other years imo. you r very correct. I know the class of 2015 and its like night and day in differences.

97 were already in elementary school by 2002, or even 2001 depending on the country, which is still the early 2000s. You're probably gonna bring up that super protective parenting after 9/11 that you claim affects memory and development like you always do on reddit. I'm gonna remind you that it wasn't like that in many other countries.

This is also why I am against making generations a topic beyond local HR and marketing; the common person takes them too rigidly, misunderstands them and it causes a lot of social division. Plus, like 80% of studies about generations are mostly US-based, and the ones that are international are based on US-determined cutoffs, which wouldn't squarely apply in many other countries. Kids in different countries would have different experiences growing with technology depending on how advanced or delayed the country is in terms of development. In my country, for example, dial-up was still pretty common in 2004/2005, and VHS was still widely used by schools until around 2003/2004. And floppy disks here were still used until around 2006/2007 - USB flash drives weren't even the main tool until afterward.

Your Country is probably is different, since your Country wasn't nearly as effected by 9/11. In America, however, despite of being in Elementary School in 2002, I doubt the class of 2015(those born in late 1996/mid 1997 babies),would remember much of anything before they were 8 years old,or hell, maybe even 10 years old, and that's a fact.  Also Generations is based on America, not other countries,so of course there be disagreements if you live in other Countries outside the Untied States.

Finally someone agrees with me without making some sort of sarcastic remark. The many experience I have with people born from 1994-1998,I can safely say people born in 1997 are very different compared to 1994-1996 babes. I even say they more similar to people born in 2001-2003/04 babies than 1994 or 1995 babies, despite of 1997 being numbererly closer to 1994-1995 babies than 2001-2003/04 babies. I don't understand why people think people born in 1997 are similar to 1994-1996 babies. Just because they are only 1-3 years younger than 1994-1996 babies means nothing, especially when the experiences are so different. For example people born in 1994-1996 were in Elementary School on 9/11.People in 1997 were not.People. born in 1994-1996 can remember things like the VHS,dial up/web 1.0,Floppy disk, etc and grew up during the pre iphone era. People in 1997 would've been too young to to remember any of those things and grew up during the iphone era.People born in 1994-1996 would be considered early 2000s kids(1994 is sometimes even considered a very late 90s kid since they were in Elementary School by 1999), while people born in 1997 are considered late 2000s kids.Last time I checked the early 2000s (2000-2003) are very different than the late 2000s(2007-2009)

Well then, next time be clear that you're referring to Americans specifically. It's the internet and people are coming from all over the world and will not get exactly what you mean.

Nonsense.. People born in 1997 didn't have access to internet or electricity or running water whereas people born in 1998 were born with tablets in their hands and brain implants. There's a clear distinction.
