Subject: "Make Me Laugh" Songs

Written By: AmericanGirl on 01/18/22 at 8:49 pm

This should be a fun one.  Post a song - or any recording packaged like a song - that whenever you hear it, you have to laugh.

It could be a designed novelty tune created with the express purpose of comedy.  Or maybe something more "tongue in cheek".  It could even be a "serious" song that brings the chuckles.  (If you have one of those, a story or explanation behind the hilarity might be in order.)

This novelty recording sported a star-studded cast including Ronnie Spector -

Over the years I have always loved Benny Hill performing "Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West)".

Wherever it is still suitable for today's standards, it is still a classic.

By the way the song was recorded at the Abbey Road Studios.

The song is pretty serious sung in Latin. But, the misheard lyrics are pretty funny. So, READ the lyrics on this video and you will be laughing and you will never heard the song again without thinking of these lyrics and laughing.

There is a British comedian who specialises in lyrics as above, he does opera arias too, but I cannot remember his name, I will ask a friend and be back on this subject.

To Be or Not to Be (The Hitler Rap) by Mel Brooks.  Though it does not appear in his 1983 film To Be or Not to Be, it appears on the soundtrack and as a single, was a Top 20 hit in several European countries including the UK.  This song is so wrong on many levels, but I love it and I wouldn't even call it a guilty pleasure because it's got a solid dance beat, it's super catchy, and it's Mel Brooks.  He was 66 at the time this came out, and for a man of that age to record a song like this was quite impressive.  As some critics have said, "Only Mel Brooks could get away with something like this!"

His name is Reiner Hersch, and here is an offering from him.

^ These videos are really funny, they've kept me in hysterics all evening.  Most I didn't know (except Dominick the Donkey and King Tut).

Not a specific song but some misheard lyrics (why you shouldn’t listen to music when you’re hungry) by Bec Hill

Hubby reminded me of this novelty smash - I laughed in 8th Grade when it first came out, as I do today.  It's the other reason I like Loudon Wainwright III (besides his M*A*S*H appearances as Captain Spaulding):

"Hey you, yes you, come here, go away, come here, go away, yes you go away!"

This is Didn't You Kill My Brother? by British comedian Alexei Sayle.  This was released as a single in 1985 and became a minor hit in Australia and Canada.  I remember seeing this video quite a bit on TV.  Such a bizarre song, but the more you hear it, the more it grows on you
