Subject: Songs where NONE OF THE WORDS in the Title are in the Lyrics?

Written By: Mitch Kramer on 11/10/22 at 2:03 am

Can you think of songs where none of the words in the title appear in the lyrics?  (Continuation from this thread.)

We'll make common sense exceptions for very common words like "of", "on", "in", "the", "a", "an", etc.  Also, we should probably exclude classical music (so no "Symphony in C# Minor No. 364") as well as instrumental songs with very, very few lyrics.

Here are the ones I've come up with so far:

"Badge" - Cream
"A.D. 1928" - Styx
"A.D. 1958" - Styx
"Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Nirvana
"Brain Damage" - Pink Floyd
"Synchronicity II" - The Police (but "Synchronicity I" uses the word many times)
"Indian Sunset" - Elton John
"Birds" - Neil Young
"After The Gold Rush" - Neil Young
"Sometimes" - My Bloody Valentine
"Legend Of A Mind" - The Moody Blues
"Creeque Alley" - The Mamas & The Papas
"Tempus Fugit" - Yes
"Squonk" - Genesis
"The Weight" - The Band

"The Battle Of Evermore" - Led Zeppelin
"Space Oddity" - David Bowie
"The Ballad of John and Yoko" - The Beatles

Can Elton John's 1978 hit "Song for Guy" be included for it is mainly instrumental until the end, in which the words "Life – isn't everything (3x)" are repeated over the primary melody?

I can still think of more. For example, these alternative rock hits from the 1990s:

Basket Case - Green Day
Selling The Drama - Live
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
Santa Monica - Everclear

There are many British rap acts who are complete unknowns in the US and Canada, and I sort of get it.  It's an acquired taste, but I really enjoy a lot of it for its sometimes bizarreness, and this song is no exception.  It's called Kevin McCallister by D-Block Europe x Lil Pino and is a song about drugs, (the N word), bitches and hoes.  This peaked at UK #40 in 2021 and makes no reference to Kevin McCallister or Home Alone unless maybe the UK got a director's cut that North America didn't? lol

"Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba (1997) also qualifies.

Um,

"And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to 92
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you"

I thought of another soulful album cut -

How about the sultry "Earth Song" by Rufus (feat. Chaka Khan), from their 1977 album "Ask Rufus"?
