Subject: I Wanna Dance When I Hear ...

Post any song that upon hearing, it makes you want to dance (or, it just makes you dance).  Any type of dance.  From any decade.

The preference is to embed the song via Youtube.  Please, just one or two per post.  Context comments, if you have them, are welcome.

When I used to go clubbing in the 80's, I always hoped they'd play this, as I loved dancing to it (my "context comment")

Occasionally, DJs would mash it with Mellencamp's R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A. - that worked OK

Great thread topic!

I will probably think of several, but one that readily comes to mind right now is “Exs And Ohs” by Elle King (2015). I find it rather catchy.

I'll post this on behalf of our 8-yo granddaughter -

On a recent visit, we were discussing songs of the past with our teen grandson who's been learning the guitar.  During our discussion I suggested to him to pull up the following song on his phone, upon which our 8-yo granddaughter who was also there launched into an exuberant happy dance  :D

A 1986 single titled I Need You by a German duo called The Twins.  This did not chart in the US or Canada, but I know it was released (at least here in Canada) as I have a Canadian pressing of the 12" single on vinyl.  This song perfectly defines the synth-pop/dance era of the mid-80s and I could honestly listen to it on loop for hours!

The first solo hit by German singer Sandra titled (I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena.  Released in 1985, it was a #1 single in several parts of Europe, and while it never charted in the US or Canada, I know it was released because like the song I previously mentioned, I have a Canadian pressing of the 12" single.  I dance to this one all the time, and it's also super fun to sing along with the backup singer lol

If I'd known about this singer back in the day, you better believe I'd of had a poster or pin-up on my bedroom wall ;)

One more to round out a hat trick...

Shaka Shaka by Walter "Zwol" Zwolinski.  Toronto born singer who had 2 minor hits on the US and Canadian charts in 1978/1979.  He had a 3rd hit in Canada with this one that peaked at #96 in 1979.  I love to dance to this, and if that catchy beat doesn't draw you in, the synth solo at 1:02 should.

In a list of "songs I cannot live without", this one would certainly be in there!

A song from 1986 called Baila Bolero by an Italian female duo called Fun Fun

Back in the 90s, I found an import 80s CD at a Sam the Record Man store and it was full of songs that were big in parts of Europe, but unknown for us in North America and this was one of them.  From the moment I heard it, I was hooked.  This song is a must for anyone who likes 80s dance music!

Here's a song I was unable to identify for over 30 years (after hearing it in a dance club in '89):

Lime - Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight

I love that group.  They are from Montreal and they had the best album covers.  In the 80s, Quebec churned out so much great dance music!
That song was co-written by Lime member Denis LePage, who also wrote the 1981 single Dancin' The Night Away for a Montreal-based female duo called Voggue that peaked at #1 on the US Dance Chart and #39 in the UK.  This is another great one to dance to!

mu3Fy6c3VR0

Just to keep with this theme, here is a famous track that is quite possibly the most well-known dance track to emerge from Quebec in the 80s.  Originally released in 1983, and a bigger hit when re-mixed in 1985, this is Living On Video by Trans-X.  The 1985 version (as heard in the video) peaked at US #61 and UK #9

Here is Dancer by Gino Soccio from 1979.  This peaked at #6 in Canada, #46 in the UK, #48 in the US and #1 on the US Dance Chart

QsU6tHmojgY

From 1979-1982, Gino charted 9 singles in the US Dance chart, all which peaked in the Top 5.  His only pop hit outside of Canada was the aforementioned Dancer, and was also his only pop hit in Canada until 1988 when he re-emerged and peaked at #79 in Canada with a fantastic cover of the Stephen Stills hit Love The One You're With.  I love to dance to this one!  The sound quality in this video however is terrible.  The song normally has much better bass

Here is a 1985 single titled Take Me To The Girl by British group The Associates.  I first learned of this song back in 1996 through it's appearance on a TV Advertised CD compilation of 80s hits called Retro Night.  I rushed out and bought the cassette and I still have it to this day!

https://e.snmc.io/i/1200/s/3bbc539bd09f7c6f46e9901cc6f11982/2937707

Shockingly, this song only peaked at #95 in the UK, which by UK standards is technically not a hit as even though there was a Top 100 chart, the magazine Music Week (which is basically the UK's version of Billboard Magazine) listed the weekly hit singles in a Top 75.  Anything after that was considered Bubbling Under
