Actually, for once I didn't wake up with a song in my head! That's a rarity! Usually though, on quite a regular basis, "Vienna" gets stuck in my head ("Oh here we go again with the Ultravox stuff," you all mumble ;D) because the line, "It means nothing to me" comes in quite handy and Rush and I both use it a lot and we don't just say it, we sing it! "It means nothing to meeeeeeeeeeeee..." Other than that, I've been all-consumed with "Lament" because I'm trying to re-create it in proper MIDI style, making it sound close to the actual song!

Blah...I'll just let you know when I really have a song in my head. I'm just being silly now. :D

Oh the song is awful, Vile. If you haven't heard it already, I suggest your husband download former regular Nick Berry's (Wicksey) song called 'Every loser wins'. That is just as terrible.

Rather shamefully, I've got that...!!
And to get the 'full' EastEnders effect, get ahold of the abysmal 'Something Outta Nothing' (their spelling!) by The Banned (they should've been...!!)

Have you heard 'Fancy Pants' by Kenny? That is unbelievable.  ;D

Bearable that...not as essential as 'The Bump' (which caused more dislocated hips than I care to remember), or 'Julie Anne'...woo-hoo...!!

Thanks, I'll ask Rush if he knows it and can get it for me. :)

Have you heard 'Fancy Pants' by Kenny? That is unbelievable.  ;D

No, I've only heard "The Bump." And the only reason why I even know the song is because I read this really funny story about the history of Ultravox. It barely scratches the surface of 'vox history, but it basically starts with Dennis Leigh (later to be called John Foxx - original lead singer) and Chris Allen (later to be called Chris Cross for a joke) sat in their flat watching Top Of The Tops in 1974, when the announcement is made: "Is this the future of rock 'n' roll?? It's Kenny with 'The Bump!'" And then throughout there are quotes from the song. So I HAD to hear it. Yes, it's bad. :) Now I need to hear "Fancy Pants." ;)

If anyone cares to read this story (though incomplete), go here: http://www.phil-marsh.ndtilda.co.uk/history.htm

Unfortunately, I did not write this story (as you can probably tell by the humour) but I nearly fell off my chair reading it, it was so funny. :) Probably mostly for people familiar with Ultravox, but as a story I still think it's hilarious.

Around a week ago, they were doing something about Coronation Street on the television. They then talked to Adam Rickett, who plays Nick Tilsley in the programme. And in the background, they were playing the 1999 top-5 hit "I Breathe Again". Dreadful track, dreadful video, but, it's in my head now..!

I don't think Donovan ever covered that song, Tommy James and the Shondells had the big hit in 1970.  Joan Jett charted with it back in 1984, too!

Song stuck in my head, not that I want it there, from the "South Park" movie, Mr. Mackey singing "You can do it, it's all up to you, mmmkayyy!"

Often songs I don't want looping in my head get stuck there.  The worst was back in 1983 when "Girls" by Dwight Twilley was recurringly stuck in my head over a period of five days.  It just kept coming back, and I hated that song!

That's one of my favorites oldies....but why the **** would anyone want to associate it with food?

Well, the commercial features a middle-aged couple sitting in their car at an A&W waxing nostalgic about, I guess, those times when you used to get served at fast food places in you car when someone would actually come out and bring you your food. That's when the music starts, and lo and behold, the guy had somehow arranged for their order to be brought out to their car and everyone is happy. :) Something like that, anyway...

I don't know what this ones called.  The lyrics go something like
everybody, move your feet and feel united.  oh oh oh repeated lots

and then (possibly)
don't stop, don't stop the beat.  can't stop can't stop the beat

I just heard it on the radio and it was also the song my daughter dancing school used in their show finale when everyone came on to take a bow.

I don't know! They were both just interspersed in my head! I'd hear bits of one, then the other. Weird! I'm not schizo or I haven't got multiple personalities or anything. I just ended up with two songs in my head at the same time.

Oh...and Ultravox won. It was a bloody and gruesome fight (kind of like what you'd see in Celebrity Death Match), and Midge Ure did suffer many injuries (he has a height disadvantage), but the other seven put up a good fight. :) I had stronger reasons to submit to "We Came To Dance." Sorry Smiths, maybe next time. :) I still love you guys!

"We came to dance reel around the fountain making moves from a passion play slap me on the patio..." Very strange indeed! I'll let you know if I can muster more than two songs in my head. We'd have a chorus! A live concert! A benefit for the insane! :D

Ultravox
We Came To Dance
spoken verse
"Take what you can
they said, take it while you may.
But keep in mind penalty fits the crime...

And it deals no softened blow."

One of my favorite Ultravox songs--one of many favorites!  Just a few words to read, but when Midge speaks them with that synth sweep running behind his voice...wow!
:)
It's only a few seconds, they could have left them in the single mix without throwing the song out of 7" length.  Oh well.

Well, the commercial features a middle-aged couple sitting in their car at an A&W waxing nostalgic
You have A&W's in Canada?  I think they still have them some places in the western U.S.  Not sure.  They went extinct here in the east before I can remember.

Frank Zappa & the Mothers
Go Cry On Somebody Else's Shoulder
spoken verse
Go ahead and cry
Go ahead and let the tears fall outa your eye
Let ’em fall on your dress
Who cares if it makes a mess?
I gave you my high school ring
At the root beer stand
We had a teen-age love baby
I thought it was sharp
It was really so grand...

Speaking of A&W!
;D

Anyway, what songs are stuck in my head?
Depeche Mode: Stripped (Breathing In Fumes remix) with Shriekback: The Underwater Boys, not to mention the fragments of Ultravox and Frank Zappa now drifting in and out!  A very strange cornucopia of sounds...

Tony20 wrote:

Oh, I loooove that song...Dunno why, exactly, something to do with the 1980 synth work and the cheesy lyrics.  There's probably no other straight guy who likes Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eys" as much as I do!  Written by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon, it won the Grammy in 1981 for "Song of the Year."  I gotta give that one another listen, if I can find which CD-R mix I put it on!

Erm...when who speaks them? Midge? Listen to the spoken bit carefully...and compare it to "Mr. X." It's Warren who speaks them! You can tell by the lack of Englishness or Scottishness in his voice. I don't know, but I can tell a Canadian accent when I hear one! ;D

You have A&W's in Canada?  I think they still have them some places in the western U.S.  Not sure.  They went extinct here in the east before I can remember.

Yes, we still have them...in this city anyway! Don't know about the rest of the country, but I assume that since they're advertising, they must be nationwide. I didn't know they were disappearing in America. I actually quite liked their burgers back when I ate meat. :)

Phew!!! And here I was expecting, "Midge didn't narrate 'Mr. X?'" But then, you wouldn't be that silly, would you. :) (And no, Midge doesn't speak German either!) ;) Warren's from Victoria, BC (Canada), and as far as I can tell, never picked up an English accent. So, it's pretty easy to pick out his voice from Midge's. ;)

The car had smashed so hard

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

Once there was this girl who
Wouldn't go and change with the girls in the change room
But when they finally made her
They saw birthmarks all over her body
She couldn't quite explain it
They'd always just been there

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

But both girl and boy were glad
'Cause one kid had it worse than that

'Cause then there was this boy whose
Parents made him come directly home right after school
And when they went to their church
They shook and lurched all over the church floor
He couldn't quite explain it
They'd always just gone there

It's about kids with really bad lives.

2. Girl with hideous birthmarks exposed when she changed for gym

And the Worst:
3. Kid with parents in a suicide cult. They killed themselves, and he either killed himself or watched everyone else die.

Wow Apricot, I always thought the third verse was about a kid and his parents belonging to a church that like to outwardly express their worshipping. Something that would be embarassing to a kid trying to explain that to his peers or having them see that.

On the radio this evening I heard a song I haven't heard in a while. It's one I like, "Memory Lane" by Minnie "Lovin' You" Riperton (1979).

It's this one...

They were shaking and lurching in pain. Probably from cyanide or something. The song says that he has it worse then either the first or second kid. Therefore, it's probably something worse then embarassment. It's probably death.

A lot of people I know have seen it that way, and it makes sense to me. Just my opinion, but I see how yours works. Thanks for being polite with your opinion, people have been rather rude to me lately.

It's about kids with really bad lives.

1. Kid in a car crash
2. Girl with hideous birthmarks exposed when she changed for gym

And the Worst:
3. Kid with parents in a suicide cult. They killed themselves, and he either killed himself or watched everyone else die.

Nasty song, eh?

Thank you very much for your explanation, Apricot. The 3rd one I never would have got. Very clever.

It's not a bad song....this is for YOU, Vile ;)

When I think of those East End lights, muggy nights
The curtains drawn in the little room downstairs
Prima Donna lord you really should have been there
Sitting like a princess perched in her electric chair
And it's one more beer and I don't hear you anymore
We've all gone crazy lately
My friends out there rolling round the basement floor

And someone saved my life tonight sugar bear
You almost had your hooks in me didn't you dear
You nearly had me roped and tied
Altar-bound, hypnotized
Sweet freedom whispered in my ear
You're a butterfly
And butterflies are free to fly
Fly away, high away, bye bye

I never realised the passing hours of evening showers
A slip noose hanging in my darkest dreams
I'm strangled by your haunted social scene
Just a pawn out-played by a dominating queen
It's four o'clock in the morning
Damn it listen to me good
I'm sleeping with myself tonight
Saved in time, thank God my music's still alive

And I would have walked head on into the deep end of the river
Clinging to your stocks and bonds
Paying your H.P. demands forever
They're coming in the morning with a truck to take me home
Someone saved my life tonight, someone saved my life tonight
Someone saved my life tonight, someone saved my life tonight
Someone saved my life tonight
So save your strength and run the field you play alone

Unfortunately today I have a campfire song stuck in my head.

I was watching part of the Proms concert last night and they played the WIlliam Tell overture.  That reminded of a campfire song to that tune and it is an intensely annoying song.

Just to really annoy everyone I'll tell you the words and then you too can have it running through your head all day!

Akela's got a head like a ping-pong ball, Akela's got a head like a ping-pong ball, Akela's got a head like ping-pong ball, like a pi-ing, ping-pong ball.

ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong, ping-pong,

and repeat ad nauseum

I've got "He's A Liquid" by John Foxx going through my head right now. Think I'll listen to it, if I can find where it is...:)

All of No Doubt's songs (I love Gwen and it's only 2 months until her 35th birthday!) Anyone know what time she was born?
3 of a kind - Baby Cakes
Amy Studt - Just A Little girl, Misfit, Under The Thumb, All I Wanna do#
Christina Milian - Dip It Low
