Of course, the webcam is facing the other way to the picture on the Abbey Road album cover. In the direct to the Volkswagen (29IF).

Since the famous photograph was taken the crossing had been moved about 30 yards along the road by the local council (City of Westmister), but it now is in the correct location, as back in the 60s.

Hm...I knew the council had moved it, but didn't know they'd put it back...

(...obviously a 'tourist' thing!)

And surprise, surprise! There are some tourists there now! Taking pictures...

...and if the one with the camera doesn't watch themselves, they'll have a very close view of the crossing!

The group was almost on the verge of splitting up by this stage...

The photo you see above was taken atop a step-ladder placed in the middle of the road, just before the crossing...it was all high-tech in those days...

An on-duty policeman very kindly stopped the traffic while the shoot quickly took place...

And look! Parked cars! With no traffic warden! (You'd never get away with that, these days...)

ESPECIALLY if you are standing in the middle of Abbey Road trying to recreate the Abbey Road picture.  ;D  But who am I to say, I always wanted to get my photo taken there too.  They should charge admission to do that and permanently park a VW Beetle there...  They'd probably make a killing.

Maybe I'll just photoshop my picture there and say I did it.  :-\\

Well, here is my effort of the inthe00s Abbey Road (I just picked random pictures that the angle *sorta* worked).  Feel free to add more people in if you wish.  I'm tired of fussing with it tonight.

Left to right we have: Chucky G, Paul, KTelQueen, and Howard.  We also have Catwoman to the left on the sidewalk, and Quirk is leaning on the VW Beetle in the background.

It would be neat and slightly surreal if any of these people posing for pictures (either crossing the crosswalk or posing in front of the studios) would log on here and see their photos...

I think that is the same effect that it has on most all of us here, I find myself tuning in, hoping to catch something unusual or just seeing how busy the road is.  When truth be told, I, myself, will probably never get there.  It really wasn't on my list of top 10 things to do before I die, but maybe it's in the top 50 anyways now.

If it weren't for the Beatles, I'm sure many of us on this side of the pond would probably have never even heard of Abbey Road.

Cat
The Abbey Road recording Studios were famous before The Beatles moved in, the composer Edward Elgar conducted his compositions for recording here.

I was thinking last night, you really don't wanna do anything *too* unusual to draw attention to yourself on webcam what with security the way it is nowadays.  So I guess that leaves the Beatles impersonators in full Sgt. Pepper uniforms out of crossing with you.  :(
