that's pretty funny. they should use it during the primaries.

Well, it's a nice way of saying that you can brag about yourself...but in a good way.  You could post some pics of yourself or some stuff you've done.  Like the way Tia posted a movie he made and Johnny posted about a play he is in.

so.... was lincoln trying to end slavery? or just hold the union together? i've heard rumors lincoln didn't care as much about slavery per se as has been said.

what was the biggest single turning point in the war? did you know the civil war is one of the few wars where the side with the higher casualty count won? (the only other example of such a war i can think of is vietnam.)

I've been cast as Major General Stanley in The Friends Of The Performing Arts In Concord's (FOPAC's) March 17, 2007 concert performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance".

The performance is a fundraiser to help pay for the extensive stage renovations at FOPAC's 51 Walden Street facility.

This will be my FIRST attempt ever at performing Gilbert and Sullivan!  The show will be performed only once, on Saturday, 3/17/07, at 51 Walden Street in Concord (The Concord Players' theater).  The show is a collaboration of The Concord Orchestra, The Concord Band, and The Concord Players.  I believe we will have the equivalent of a full symphony orchestra.  Principal characters and soloists, yours truly among them, will be in costume.

Lincoln freed the slaves as a political move.  He was not an abolitionist.

The actually turning point was probably Gettysburg.  Yep, I knew that.

Yes, it would be shameless, and your point is???
Some of those scenes from Head are really cool. Go for it!!

I bought a $54 black corset last weekend and I look SEXY in it. You all wish you had a body like mine. That's SO not true, but I do look rather hot in it. And what the heck does "extol your own prowess" mean!?
definitely shameless self promotion.  nicely done Ashley, you make me proud  8)

"extol your own prowess" is basically "toot your own horn" with lots of extra syllables.

If you like 80's music, check out  Renegade Retro.  The station runs 24/7 and you can make requests from over 10,500 tracks.  I broadcast an 80's dance music mixshow LIVE on the station most Fridays at 10 PM Eastern.  The regular Friday Night Retro Dance Party features Top 40, R&B, Freestyle, House, Italo Disco and New Wave tracks.  Every 3rd Friday of the month I spin a mix called FUSION, featuring New Wave, Alternative, Brit-Pop and Electronica from the last 25 years.

All month long in February I'm spinning the Fusion Mix.  Also, if you're interested in checking out some of my DJ-friendly mixes of songs, check out the link to my blog in my sigline below.

okay. my big thing the last couple days has been, we were talking about originals the other night and the guys they were open to adding a couple originals to the repertoire as long as they didn't suck. so i've been spending the last couple days using sonic foundry to put together this redone version of a tune we used to do with the other band.

http://www.supload.com/listen?s=SnKYQG-KvJ4

it's a rather filthy song about a mad scientist who harnesses the power of the human libido to conquer the universe. this once struck me as a good subject for a raucous bar tune. the old band was sorta funky and understated and the new one is more hard edge so i tried to make the song more... loud. there's even a kind of homage to HuG in the middle (do not resist!) -- i like to think if they were ever to tackle the subject of mad scientists, they might handle it something like that.

the most fun part was playing bass. i never get to go postal on bass. effin' LOVE playing bass. then again, i love so many things.

so whatever. it's goofy right now, but i'm hoping to hammer it down tomorrow. right now tia is sleeeeeeepy.

70s sitcom theme song megajoy.

the first part ended up more... punk... than i was intending. and the ending is exactly as jam-bandy as i was intending, but i got sleepy with it and faded it out.

and i was supposed to spend the whole day working on something else. sitcom medley was meant to be a warmup. oops.

and eventually i'm hoping to tack "Wecome back kotter" onto it. welcome back kotter is a kickass theme song, and that's all there is to it.

compared to the other stuff i've shamelessly uploaded, this is damn chill.

http://www.mediafire.com/?6yynz2ky2wo

supload is blowing chunks. lemme know if this works, i'm trying a new service.

i wanna go back and do a video of the mad science song, but i was actually supposed to do a different song today so... it's all going slower than i'd expected.

It's the basic concept of taking care of other people.  Yeah, I've been called a socialist.  I think every state is looking into it.  Which ones have a bill or not, I'd have to do some research.

I'm so shamless I'm back here in this thread with some mo' pretty promotions about Renegade Retro:

Next live show is Saturday, February 24th at 10 PM EST with ThunderVamp9 doing the All 80's Request Show.  You can send your request via various instant messengers or through the website to TV9 before or during the show and he'll do his best to get them on during the show.  Also, there's a 10-song stumper that's needing to be solved.  The stumper mp3 file is about 7 seconds long with 10 snippets of songs that are in the regular playlist rotation (meaning that they're likely Top 40 hits or singles rather than an obscure album cut) and can be downloaded from our site.  Guess all 10 artists and song titles correctly and you can win $50! (Yeah, it may not be much, but honestly the station doesn't make any money, so TV9 is being rather generous with this giveaway.)  You can solve the stumper at anytime.  If it isn't solved in a timely manner (usually a couple months) TV9 reveals the songs during the show and makes us all feel silly for not knowing 0.5 seconds of a song.  ;D  Then a new one is created.  Fun stuff!

Diofan and I will both be back Friday, March 2nd with our live shows.  Renegade Retro Metal Shop starts at 7 PM EST and features 2 1/2 hours of the best in 80's Metal and early 90's Hard Rock, with a splash of 70's Rock in the mix.  First Friday of the month is a Hard Metal show entirely dedicated to the harder stuff.

The Friday Night Retro Dance Party starts at 10 PM EST and is hosted by yours truly.  3 hours of non-stop 80's dance music (Top 40, New Wave, R&B, Freestyle, House etc).  Every 3rd Friday (except for March; I'm off the 9th, 16th and 23rd due to other obligations) of the month I spin a mix called FUSION which is New Wave, Alternative, Brit-Pop and Electronica from the past 25 years or so.

So check it out and join us in our chatroom during the shows for an interactive good time!  :)

Correction about the Metal Shop in my last post; due to Diofan's schedule the show has moved back to Sundays at 10 PM Eastern.  I'm on the air tomorrow night at 10 PM Eastern, then not again until March 30th due to family and travel obligations.

Check out the shows!  Or check out Renegade Retro right now!  Triple-Play Thursdays!

Yeah well, I just tried to register and couldn't :P

okay, my escape to witch mountain song for the kim richards concept album.  it's called "orphans." cuz tia and tony were, like, orphans. and whatnot.

i'm thinking the album should be called "see the sky."

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=659180

this is actually a pretty old song, the rest i'm going to have to make up from scratch. it goes like this...

get a little higher yeah, lift off the ground and get high

when we were born we fell down from the sky
and since then we've forgotten how to fly
stuck to the ground in a material mirage
without our sister selves, our spirits drift so far away

get a little higher than yesterday
never mind the price you pay

get a little higher yeah, lift off the ground and get high

when we were born we fell down from the sky
left with a field of blue behind our eyes
stuck to the ground in a material mirage
without our sister selves, who float among the stars

get a little higher than yesterday
never mind the price you pay

get a little higher yeah, lift off the ground and get high

orphans of other worlds
we are orphans of other worlds

good stuff Tia. I enjoy your tunes and wish the part in bold ^ were longer, like twice as long. It's pretty cool in between the jazzy rock and is very soothing somehow. again I am impressed with your musicianship.

thanks man! disney will probably sue my ass off if they ever get wind i lifted a sound clip out of one of their movies. they're notorious for being real jackbooted thugs about that. my only hope is to languish in perpetual obscurity so they never find out. so far so good.

wish the part in bold ^ were longer, like twice as long. It's pretty cool in between the jazzy rock and is very soothing somehow. you know, great minds think alike -- we used to do a modified version of this tune in the old band and the drummer, real talented guy (who looks just like tony! that's where the whole tiatar thing got started in the first place...) used to say the same thing.

i think it might take too much momentum out of the song but i'm thinking i wanna do this thing with lots of reprises and restating riffs and stuff, sorta like abbey road or the album band on the run? so i'll probably restate that somewhere, yeah?

this is excellent practice! you have to do all this different stuff for all these different moods. i had to review my half-whole diminished scales (cuz let's face it, when the theme is mind control, nothing but the half-whole diminished will do) and whole-tone modulations (great for car chases; easy on guitar but a pain in the butt on keys).

i'm thinking something hippy-trippy for hello larry, some southern rock for dukes of hazzard, a bizarro mr. bungle-ish metal trilogy to get the car, assault on precinct 13 and devil dog all at once. that'll keep me busy till i figure out how to handle escape, tuff turf and meatballs. oh! and then there's dorian gray.

ballad, bitch!

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=659180

if you've ever wondered
what lies in this heart of mine
behind these eyes that sparkle
and this ivory smile that shines

You only see my beauty
but think you see my soul
meanwhile i wile my days away
and watch the world go cold

if a picture caught my spirit
and you saw the real me
you'd hold me in less wonder
cause of the ravages you'd see

The time is still, it will not pass
Death it seems so far away
And the sand it stands in the hourglass
As I work up debts i'll never pay

The hour grows so late
So much I've planned remains undone
But I will lie in wait
For a redemption that may never come

she's a picture out of time
before guilt or greed or pain
with a sunny smile that sparkles
and her ivory smile that shines

In the moving frames she'll never change
But her living soul goes through the years
like us she'll pass through the hourglass
We all lose the beauty we hold so dear

Forever young...

We will always be this way
She has always just been one of us
all beauty fades away
Into that we place our trust

Forever young...

i should maybe explain the first few stanzas are supposed to be character dorian gray (from the oscar wilde play, yeah?) singing. although the song's actually about a made-for-t.v. adaptation of said play.

this may be the first ever lovey ballad based on a made-for-t.v. movie.

rap with ruthie. like the fifth revision.

with the deliberately goofy lyrics.

***

pluck a duck, milk a moose
everywhere a duckmoose
i'm so sorry, foxes don't date turkeys.
you could get a ticket for jaytalking

I like that show about the fish -- name that tuna.
he hasn't said pluck a duck since mom told him to milk a moose
i hope a lizard eats your gizzard, and a whale eats your tail

this is ruthie alder, coming to you through the miracle of radio
so pick up the alexander graham bell and gimme a jingle
this is the alder known as ruthie, sitting here in the radio boothie
look at that thing in there like a little blonde goldfish.

why don't you try getting high on fresh air, tennis, roller skating, all that kinda stuff?

i still have a sliver of silver in my liver from the civil war
you show me your sliver, i'll show you mine
wrassle castle, four-wheel mattress
hot hank and his mobile house of joy
oh, she's way past like. She's got the burning yearning.

i think it's cuz i'm using netscape navigator and i only saw options for explorer and mozilla, i think? anyway, i got lost in all the buttons.

ok.

rap with ruthie, revision six. smoothed out the levels best i could, nips and tucks and tried to lead into that coda at the end a little better.

There is a URL you can paste into your Winamp or Windows Media Player that should work better since it will be independent of your actual browser.  I usually use Firefox.

i deinstalled firefox, i saw there was a winamp thing but i didn't know it would work for media player too. come to think of it media player's giving me headaches like firefox was so maybe i should deinstall that too. does winamp play movies? i need to deinstall everything redundant that goes to my audio cuz i think part of these lockup issues i've been having is probably with all these different drivers wanting at my audio system.

rap with ruthie. like the fifth revision.

with the deliberately goofy lyrics.

***

pluck a duck, milk a moose
everywhere a duckmoose
i'm so sorry, foxes don't date turkeys.
you could get a ticket for jaytalking

She's got the burning yearning.
maybe you can help me with my short game. they tell me i sway on the backswing.
"yeah, why don't you ask denise, she likes to get pushed around to music.

Why was it muffled?  ???
like there's not enough treble. easily enough fixed, maybe.

and the part when the hello larries come in is too chaotic. might be able to fix that by panning some of the parts to one channel or another. makes it easy to sort through when there's a bunch of busy parts.

and i'm not sure anyone who isn't a friend or a relative is going to listen to a song that starts with the line "pluck a duck, milk a moose, everywhere a duckmoose."  ;D seemed like a good idea at the time.

jeez, still a lot to do, i think. good thing i don't have a job.

What show do you have tonight?  :)

*I'm* not doing any shows tonight, but we do have a pretty heavy schedule of shows on Sundays now.

The Weekly Top 40 Countdown runs every Sunday at 10 AM EST.  Kinda like the Casey Kasem & Rick Dees shows from yesteryear.  Top 40 is chosen by number of spins for that week, and that includes songs requested and played, so the listeners can affect the countdown by requesting songs.  :)

At 4 PM EST we have an hour of tracks by the Battle of the Bands winner.  Each week in our forum we post a poll for two bands/artist to go head-to-head and the winner gets an hour of their music selected at random to play each Sunday.  This week there wasn't a poll, but NewRomantic was close enough to the number guess so this week's artist is none other than Duran Duran.  Show will commence in about an hour, tune in!

At 6 PM EST we have yet another new feature, The Listener Hour.  Register at http://www.renegaderetro.com and you can pick songs from our playlist (over 11,000 songs!) and put them in your "pool".  Each Sunday at 6 PM a random member's pool will be selected and for the next hour random tracks from their pool will play.  It's like your very own show!  You must have at least 50 songs in your song pool to be considered for the random draw.

And last but definitely not least, Diofan hosts Metal Shop at 10 PM Eastern.  If you're in to 80's Metal and Hard Rock I highly recommend tuning in!

As of the time Midas posted that, I added a new segment to Metal Shop, first two songs on the show are "Indie"/Unsigned bands. This helps gain these bands some exposure. If anyone here is a member of an 80s style Rock/metal band, hit me up, I may air it.

This week I go one step further. I'm toying with some new software that I really like playing with. it's essentially an MP3 Mixer. The second half of the show will use only this mixer program, the first half is done traditionally. And as Always, metal shop will ROCK!! so tune in!!!

There are several ways to tune in:
Winamp
Windows Media Player
Realplayer *

Midas' show airs friday nights at 10 PM Eastern
Thundervamp9's All 80's request show airs Saturdays at 10 PM Eastern (except 3rd saturday of each month)
Finally My show...metal shop airs Sundays at 10 PM Eastern
* haven't tried this one so can't tell you the quality

This is a song all about somebody that I hate, it's all about killing them. Which is brutal.

Do you wanna die 'cus you're going the right way.
My terror laden mind creating brutal pageantry.
If you seek destruction then with me you ought to play,
I'm gonna strip you naked, then I'm gonna have my way..

Gonna.. tear your eyes out, rip your flesh off, beat you till you have no senses.
Rip your guts out, shred your limbs up, take me vengeance on your carcass...

You have one life to give to me, I'll take it all away.
Giving you the option here to leave and still remain.
Continuous dilemma now I'm going quite insane,
You remaining in my presence is a recipe for pain.

Love to.. kick your knees out, pull my cock out, force it down until you're gagging.
Keep you breathless, keep you choking, spread my hatred through your carcass...

I've never been a patient man, you've used up all your chances.
Don't try to run, don't try to flee it just invokes more madness.
Stomping out the spark of life the rage controls my actions.
Cruelty through my dominance your life is now retracting.

Have to... Hold your face down on the sidewalk, stomping on the back of your head.
Giving you no chance to fight back, killing you to set me free!
