Hiya Ashley, nice to meet you. My name is Rob but I'm currently the username 'Ringo Starr's mom' at the moment. Hopefully the Profile Bandit will be nice to me and return me to my normal self soon, lol.

Of course you can join, I didn't know I had a fan club until Cat made this for me.  8)

I wondered about the "Ringo Starr's Mom" thing.  Is that an inside joke?

Of sorts. I questioned the power of the profile bandit and said as long as s/he doesn't call me 'Rag Dolly Anna' I'm not bothered. Lo and behold I was called Rag Dolly Anna afterwards for a short while (it was based on an old kid's tv show in the UK about 20 years ago). I then joked with Karen saying it's better than being called Ringo Starr's mum...Guess what I am called now? Lol.

Heh heh, not bad for some off the top of the head nonsense. I've forgotten how much I love the theme tune for Rag Dolly Anna, lol. Don't tell the lads on here though because I've got a masculine reputation to uphold.  ;) ;D

Ah! Now there's a nice bit of reverse psychology. I just hope the Profile Bandit doesn't call me sexy bloke because I really hate to be called that more than Ringo Starr's mum...with a passion...There! That should do it, lol.

I love that picture, Jason!  8)

They are both wearing a title (Ultimate Warrior the Intercontinental title and Hulk Hogan the World Heavyweight Title) so I'm guessing the photo is dated about late '89 to early '90. It might actually be a Saturday Night's Main Event where both Warrior and Hogan were feuding with Mr Perfect and The Genius which lead up to the main event at Wrestlemania 6.

Back when wrestling wasn't a comedy joke.

Back when it was entertaining. I saw Edge 'The Rated R Superstar' recently and I thought; "Does this guy have to look like he's swallowed a lemon to get over the fact he's not a nice person?" It's a shame because he is a pretty good wrestler but he's been the victim of many 'personality changes' over his 10 year career. I remember an Edge clip and he said; "After watching that I have to admit ...I am AWESOME". After watching that, I suggest he watch some 'Ravashing' Rick Rude or Mr Perfect tapes to learn how to get over as a bad guy with minimum effort. ;D

Wrestling has always been entertainment, it's just now more noticibly scripted than before.  Real wrestling is the stuff in the olympics and schools.  Guys wearing tights, on a mat, in a circle doing submission holds

That's right. The difference is the wrestling has got slicker but the wrestlers are less charismatic. For example, I'm the first to say that the quality of wrestling in a Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior match can be pretty poor but what they are both excellent at is making you care about whatever they are doing in the ring and can tell a story without ramming it down your throat.

What's happening is a lot of the mid-card from 10 years ago are becoming main-stars. I never believed Edge, Christian, JBL and the like were main event material. I just can't believe Roddy Piper is still hobbling around Wrestlemania after 25 years, lol.

Other than colds (which I usually expect to get at least a couple times of year anyway), I haven't caught anything major yet.  :)  And yep, I'm a receptionist.  It's a good job, although I'd like to return to school someday and get a nursing degree.  :)

Hogan was passing the torch to the Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 6, probably because he realised around that time his film 'career' was taking off. Suburban Commando came out in 1991 so that would mean he was probably filming up until Summerslam 1990 when he came back to feud with Earthquake (the storyline was Earthquake broke Hogan's ribs).

I remember to publicise the first Wrestlemania the WWF had a cartoon out called 'Hulk Hogan's Rock and Wrestling'. The voice of Hulk Hogan was Brad Garrett (Robert Barone from 'Everybody Loves Raymond'). Quite interesting since Garrett is probably as tall as Hulk Hogan. Charles Adler, who voiced Roddy Piper, has done lots of voice-overs including most of the voices for the cartoon 'Cow and Chicken'.

Same here, though the UK got the cartoon about 3 or 4 years after it was released if I remember correctly. I used to watch some crazy stuff on Saturday mornings, lol. One show was called 'No 73' and it was basically a media show for kids that was set in someone's house and had some form of narrative to it. Before that was Tiswas, infamous for it's gunge, buckets of water throwing and custard pies.

I remember most of them, ninny. A lot of those failed gimmicks were from the now defunct WCW. 13. Waylon Mercy, 5. Oz (Kevin Nash or 'Diesel' under a mask) 3. Phantasio could have been excellent gimmicks if they were given more of a chance.

24. Repo Man was Barry Darsow ('Smash' from Demolition)

21. Oaklahoma was Ed Ferrara doing a bad-taste impersonation of Jim Ross, commentator of WWE. This included an impression of Bells Palsy which Jim Ross has had ever since 1994.

15. Isaac Yankem (real name Glenn Jacobs) was supposed to be an evil dentist, mainly had a feud with Bret Hart. He would come back as Kane and Jacobs hasn't looked back since.

7. Max Moon (real name Thomas Boric), was the masked Kato, a member of The Orient Express from late 1990 to 1992.

6. The Kiss Demon was two men, the first called Brian Adams (not the singer). He was the third member of Demolition 'Crush' from late 1990 - mid 1991. He died in 2007 of steroid abuse. Dale Torborg took over after just one appearance by Adams.

1. The Shockmaster (real name Fred Ottman) was Tugboat in 1990 and in 1991 teamed with Earthquake as Typhoon to form 'The Natural Disasters'. He made one of the most genuinely hilarious first entrances into a wrestling business ever. This was around 1993 in a TV segment called 'Flair for the Gold'. Now this TV segment was unintentionally funny throughout as the acting was absolutely terrible and WCW was more famous for it's mess-ups and absurd gimmicks than the WWE, often badly realised or poorly budgeted. This all comes together in this wonderfully infamous clip from Youtube - it's comedy genius from start to finish:  ;D

Is the UK getting snow?

In some places, Howard. We usually get snow everywhere apart from where I live in the South West, possibly being close to the sea is a factor. The more north you go in England, usually the more snow you are likely to get and if you go to Scotland definitely make sure you wear more than a kilt, lol.

Saying that, even we got some 'snow' this year but nothing in comparison to the East of the US.

I have some serious personality flaws too. All I can say is life has a way of humbling you and, if we take and learn from the lessons life dishes out it will make us better people. I have a long way to go but at least I am always willing to improve - and that can't be a bad thing. :)

I never said I was logical, lol.

I really appreciate everything, I really do. I am very happy to be back but I just feel part of a craze at the moment and I have always been a person that does my own thing on the boards. Maybe that is why I would like this locked up, I have enjoyed the moment and it's time to move on. Anything more than this would be like adding too much water to cordial drinks.

It would really make me happy if you could lock this one thread up for me. Can you do it, Snoz? :)

Not really. A jobber is a person who is deliberately booked to make another wrestler look better (a jobber looks more 'normal' than a wrestler). He is paid to make every punch and move look devastating to him and the wrestler will usually pin him within 5 mins. You rarely see squash matches these days.

Lanny was one of the few people I saw who got bloody in a battle royal. On a Saturday Night Main Event, Andre headbutted him and sent him over the top rope. He was a mess and had to be carried off on a stretcher.

He certainly was, Howard. Lanny 'Genius' Poffo had a couple of matches around that time, his biggest being his match against Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake at Royal Rumble 1990. That was just to set up a feud between Brutus Beefcake and Mr Perfect. It's a shame really because, in some ways, Lanny was as entertaining in the ring as his brother Randy.

Absolutely. There were major personalities like 'Classy' Freddie Blassie, 'Captain' Lou Albano and Johnny Valiant before I even got into it. I never understood why Fuji wore that suit and bowler hat though. I think Bobby Heenan copied Johnny Valiant's style but Heenan was a lot more funnier with his delivery - naturally, he was my favourite. He's now part of the WWE's Hall of Fame.

Good grief! I thought it was only the blokes that watched wrestling, lol. The only 70s wrestler I know was Intercontinental Champ Pat Patterson but then it depends on what you watched. There were so many promotions at that time and not like the monopoly the WWE has now. There was the AWA, NWA (or WCW as it was later called) and I think SMW was packing the seats at that time too.

When you say ECW you are referring to the 'ECW' from the WWE? When ECW got incorporated in with WWE I barely recognised it. The only old-school ECW wrestler there was poor old Tommy Dreamer. The real deal ECW ended about 9 years ago which was a shame because they had some amazing riot matches and original storylines that beat the WWE's crusty formula retreads.

WWE NXT seems like another version of Tough Enough to me. Another snoozefest.
