I remember on New Year Eve 2000, there was some people I saw on tv who thought the world was ending at midnight, I wonder where they are today, lol.

I don't think the world will end, per se...I'd like to see something change, though.  For the better, of course.

I'd like to try to get as much of my life in by 2012 as I can (I'll only be 22), but it doesn't appear that I'll even have a decent job by then.  (Assuming I follow the convention of 4 years of high school--which I am desperately trying to get out of--and 4 years of college.)

But, ya never know...which is why I plan on just taking it as it comes.

My niece was Miss Oregon about 10 years ago, she went to Miss America which was cool. I'm much older but when I watch them I feel like a high schooler. Yes, the western 35% or so of the state is solid forest, except for the valleys and what's been cut down (which is a lot). 

Also, around Klamath Falls in the south-central part of the state are pine woods and also in eastern Oregon's Blue Mountains are some forests, so overall Oregon is like 40% woods.

What year did the Mayans predict the ending of the world?  Their calendar was probably one of the most precise in history, which is amazing for their time period.  They have also predicted many things throughout history, so it will be interesting to see if their date is true.  I will have to look up the specifics though.  It could very well be 2012, but who knows.

Moderately bad things -- this rock wasn't very big; if it hit the earth, it would have been comparable to the Tunguska event of 1908; the damage would have been equivalent to a few megatons' worth of nukes going off, but with no radioactive fallout.  Plus a 3/4 probability of it landing far enough out to sea that no humans would have been affected beyond seeing a spectacular fireworks display.  Even if it had hit a city, the city could have been rebuilt within a decade or two.

Don't worry about the asteroids we know about.  Worry about the ones we don't know about.

Even the small asteroids can be problematic -- what if Tunguska had happened in 1958 instead of 1908, during the height of USA/USSR Cold War paranoia?  Would the leaders of the country beneath the without-warning impact have bothered to check for radiation before launching a retaliatory strike?

As for the big asteroids?  The dinosaurs are extinct because they didn't have a space program.
