Lee-Jackson-King Day

Lee-Jackson-King Day was a holiday celebrated in the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1984 to 2000.
Robert E. Lee's birthday (January 19, 1807) has been celebrated as a Virginia holiday since 1889. In 1904, the legislature added the birthday of Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson (January 21, 1824) to the holiday, and Lee-Jackson Day was born.
In 1983, President Ronald Reagan approved an Act of Congress declaring January 15 to be a national holiday in honor of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. Since 1978, Virginia had celebrated King's birthday in conjunction with New Year's Day. To align with the federal holiday, the Virginia legislature simply combined King's celebration with the existing Lee-Jackson holiday.
The incongruous nature of the holiday, which simultaneously celebrated the lives of Confederate generals and a civil rights icon, did not escape the notice of Virginia lawmakers. Legislators protested the holiday by waving pictures of Jesse Jackson, Spike Lee, and Martin Luther King, Jr. around the state capitol. In 2000, Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore proposed splitting Lee-Jackson-King Day into two separate holidays, with Lee-Jackson Day to be celebrated the Friday before what would become Martin Luther King Day. The measure was approved and the two holidays are now celebrated separately.

I was talking about the clock that appears on the top of inthe00s. Under the place where it says Hey, xxx, you have xx messages, 0 are new. The clock on there did not automatically change, like it has done in the past.

Change the board clock yourself.  I explained how.  And to get the clock on your computer to change, if you run Windows, you need to go to Microsoft.com and download something that will allow your computer to jump ahead an hour.

He's obviously aware of the proper time else he wouldn't know that the board clock is incorrect for him. I assume the lack of automatic changeover just interests him, so that he's not actually complaining about it but rather is simply discussing it and looking forward to April when he can test his theories about possible causes of this.

If you've downloaded that widget thingie from Microsoft to update your computer, on April 1st, your computer won't jump ahead another hour.  The reason you had to download it in the first place was because come April 1st, when you thought the time would change....it wouldn't.  So the computer won't recognize that date as anything other than April 1st.

And what's to discuss?  The board clock didn't change.  Either change it, or leave it one hour behind every other time-telling device in your home.

We received an E-mail on 1/25/05: "I saw on your calendar on the Internet that the Pillsbury Doughboy's birthday is listed at March 18, 1961.  However, the character of Poppin' Fresh, the Pillsbury Doughboy, was not created until 1965, and the company does not have a firm date for his creation other than the year.  I just thought you might want to delete that from the March 18th section since it is not accurate.  Thank you. "National Student-Athlete Day has been celebrated annually on April 6 since 1987. National Student-Athlete Day is America's day to celebrate outstanding student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics while having made significant contributions to the community. It is also a time to recognize those parents, teachers, coaches and school systems which make it possible for young people to find the balance between academics and athletics. Holidays and observances for Monday, April 9, 2007: Easter Monday.

Oh yes, that day is observed in various parts of the world, especially as a bank holiday.

Friday The 13th (April 13th)

I observed it by staying in for most of the day.

I don't believe in superstition, but I do always see what kind of "luck" I end up having during the day, good or bad. This time it was a mix of both good and bad (for me).

Anyway, today (Sunday, April 15th) is "Jackie Robinson Day" in the world of baseball, as it marks the 60th anniversary of the day he broke the "color barrier", and to honor that, every member of the L.A. Dodgers is wearing uniform #42. Players from other teams have also worn the number in his honor.
