80 years ago, wow!

Twice in his career (2 seperate years), Babe Ruth had more home runs (as a player) than some teams combined. ex: One year he'd have 54 Home runs, and you added up all the home runs of another team, it was less than he had. Amazing. Just amazing.

August 17, 1992 (also a Monday, just like today): Kevin Gross of the L.A. Dodgers pitches anything but his name. He throws a no-hitter against the San Francisco Jints. It was probably the best thing that the Dodgers did during that year, which turned out to be a dismal season for them. :-\\ :(

That's right, he began his career as a pitcher and then switched to a position player. That doesn't happen too often.

I think Rick Ankiel went through that in recent years. He started his career as a pitcher, but didn't do so well, but converted to a position player and did much better. (Something like that)

October 14th 1992 - Toronto Blue Jays beats Oakland A's to win their 1st AL pennant

Historic event in baseball postseason history, as it would be the first time that the World Series would be carried into Canada. The Blue Jays would eventually win the series in 6 games, defeating the NL champion Atlanta Braves; they would return to the series the following year to retain their championship, winning that series in 6 games over the Philadelphia Phillies.

October 15, 1988: In Game One of the World Series between the heavily-favored Oakland Athletics and the "underdog" Los Angeles Dodgers, the Dodgers entered the bottom of the 9th inning, trailing 4-3. With two out and a runner on, Kirk Gibson hobbled up to the plate as a pinch hitter, despite not being expected by anyone to take part in the game. He smacked a 3-2 pitch, a towering fly ball issued by A's pitcher Dennis Eckersley, into the stands for a two-run, walkoff home run, giving the Dodgers the victory in the World Series opener.

Full details of the historic event can be found in this link.

One of the few times that the World Series had started on a Tuesday, especially in recent years. This was due to the regular season ending on October 3rd, a Wednesday. The reason for that, was a work stoppage that had begun in February, canceling the spring training games traditionally played in March. As a result, the regular season had to open on Monday April 9th instead of the 2nd.
